چکیده

Depression is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by altered emotion and cognition. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) potent natural antioxidant exhibits neuroprotective effects. However, its antidepressant activity mechanism of action in rats exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) need be evaluated. The were divided into six groups. Group, I vehicle control (without stress), II- CUMS, III- fluoxetine (FLX) (50 mg/kg p.o.), IV, V, VI treated with ALA (50, 100, 200 mg/kg, respectively. All the groups, except I, subjected CUMS + treatments from day 1 42. Body weight behavioral parameters like sucrose preference test (SPT), Morris water maze (MWM), resident intruder (RIT), marble-burying (MBT) performed on 0, 21, 42, forced swim (FST) last 42 43 only. further sacrificed for biochemical histopathological evaluation. significantly improved function, increased strength, reduced lipid peroxidation, restored monoamines, protected CA3 neurons. Further, docking studies revealed strong binding 5HT3 receptor. study demonstrates that might exhibiting effects part restoring monoamines modulating

Acupuncture Activates ERK-CREB Pathway in Rats Exposed to Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress

Extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)-cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) signal pathway has been implicated in the pathogenesis of depression. There is growing evidence that acupuncture in traditional Chinese medicine has antidepressant-like effect. However, the effect of acupuncture on ERK-CREB pathway remains unknown. In our study, the antidepressant-like effect of acupuncture...

Antidepressant-Like Effect of Lipid Extract of Channa striatus in Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress Model of Depression in Rats

This study evaluated the antidepressant-like effect of lipid extract of C. striatus in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) model of depression in male rats and its mechanism of action. The animals were subjected to CUMS for six weeks by using variety of stressors. At the end of CUMS protocol, animals were subjected to forced swimming test (FST) and open field test followed by biochemical a...

The effect of lipoic acid on antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation in rats exposed to chronic restraint stress.

This study was designed to investigate effect of alpha-lipoic acid (LA) on lipid peroxidation, nitric oxide production and antioxidant systems in rats exposed to chronic restraint stress. Twenty four male Wistar rats, aged three months, were divided into four groups: control (C), the group treated with LA (L), the group exposed to restraint stress (S) and the group exposed to stress and treated...

Evaluation of behavioural and antioxidant activity of Cytisus scoparius Link in rats exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress

BACKGROUND Various human diseases have oxidative stress as one of their component. Many herbs have been reported to exhibit properties that combat oxidative stress through their active constituents such as flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds etc. Cytisus scoparius (CS) Link, (Family: Leguminosae), also called Sarothamnus scoparius, has been shown in invitro experiments to be endowed with an...
